Dead Macbook

Macbook + Desk - July 2008
The Box

If you don’t have a Applecare for your mac, I suggest you get it ASAP (assuming you can). I learned the hard way when my beloved Macbook unexpectedly shut off while I was watching a movie.

Taking it in for ‘diagnosis’ revealed that the motherboard had fried — it would be cheaper to buy a new mac than to replace the damaged board. Fantastic.

So … being the plugged-in freak that I am, I had to replace the laptop and I am now an owner of a Macbook Pro! My 5 bullet point review:

  • Illuminated keyboard = outrageously cool novelty.
  • I prefer the 15.4″ matte LCD to my separate LCD panel. It’s that pretty.
  • CAN’T EASILY INSTALL A NEW HARD DRIVE? Fail.
  • Everything feels faster and more responsive (particularly Aperture)
  • Fans are a hell of a lot quieter.

Crazy Buttons

Special Button

A few days ago I noticed that the building I work at has a little food place inside that’s above the ground floor, but I couldn’t figure out how to get to it. Well, now I know. Two of the (presumably) 6 elevators in the building have a special “Coffeeshop” button. Ahaha.

The place is actually very uninspiring … but hey … I’m still endlessly amused by the dedicated button.

Earth Hour 2008

Earth Hour 2008 (1)

I turned things off and played with the camera in the dark.

WHAT DID YOU DO?

I’ve got to say that ‘participating’ in Earth Hour feels almost mind-bogglingly useless. I suppose it achieves something, but I’m not quite sure what yet.

Ah well, sitting beside a computer by candlelight gives me a chance to relive that great ol’ blackout from a few years ago. That was a real earth hour, am I right? Right.
